Obituaries for November 14, 2009
Odis Howard Knight, 83, of Lenoir, passed away Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Knight was born in Caldwell County to the late Ambrose and Mary Craig Knight. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters. He was retired from the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War and retired from the furniture industry. He was a member of College Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Elenor Johnson Knight of Lenoir; two sons, James Knight of Lenoir and Larry Knight of Morganton.
A funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Pendry's Funeral Home Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at 11 a.m. with the military chaplain officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park with full military honors. The family will receive friends at Pendry's Funeral Home Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, from 3 until 5 p.m.

THELMA KILBY
Mrs. Thelma Mary Jane Lackey Kilby, 94, of South N.C. Highway 18, Boomer died Thursday, November 12, 2009 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held Sunday 2 p.m., Nov. 15, 2009 at Little Rock Baptist Church with the Rev. David Byrd and the Rev. Robert Webb officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.
Mrs. Kilby was born March 3, 1915 in Wilkes County to John and Mary Earp Lackey. She was a homemaker, self employed seamstress and was a foster grandparent for Wilkes County Schools. She was a dedicated member of Little Rock Baptist Church, active in Sunday School and the Women's Missionary Union. She loved to garden, read and work word puzzles, play card and board games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Bryant Kilby; two sons, Raymond Kilby, Derwood Lackey; three sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by: one daughter, Glenda Anderson and husband, Carl of Lenoir; two sons, Jerry Kilby and wife, Gloria of Boomer, Gary Kilby and wife, Gail of Dry Fork, VA; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

MAXIE WILLIAMS
Mr. Maxie Williams, formerly of Granite Falls died Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa. There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at Mackie-High Chapel, Granite Falls. The public is welcome to attend. Mackie-High Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Maxie Williams.
DENNIS RIGGAN
Mr. Dennis Eugene Riggan, 53, of Jebs Lane, Taylorsville, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009. at N.C. Baptist Hospital. The funeral service for Mr. Riggan will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at Clover Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Mackie-High Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Dennis E. Riggan.
