Obituaries for Nov. 25, 2009
Mrs. Alma Helen Goodyear Appelgate, 77, of Huntersville, N.C., died Sunday, November 22, 2009, at University Hospital after a long battle with cancer.
Born April 23, 1932 in Cleveland, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Howard E. Goodyear and Dorothy Erman Goodyear. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard E. Appelgate.
She earned her bachelors and masters degrees in education from Cleveland State University. She was a member of Communion of Faith Christian Church, a retired teacher, an avid genealogist and involved with every aspect of church life from making banners to serving as an elder.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Donald (Sue) of Lakewood, Ohio; daughters, Lorrie Volz (Scott) of Granite Falls, and Deborah McMicheaux (Steve) of Huntersville,; foster daughters, Alice Mayo (Robert) of Iuka, Miss., Carol Whitt of Genoa, W. Va. and Linda Houser (Aris) of Sullivan, Ind.: grandchildren, Brian Volz, Zachary McMicheaux, Matthew Volz, Charlie Volz and Jessica McMicheaux, step-grandchild, Douglas Volz; foster grandchildren, Robert Mayo (Stacy), Lorrie Ann Newton (Cole), Paul Mayo (Heather), Kim Jennings (John), Robert Howell (Darlene), James Whitt and Dennis Bolinger (Misty); nine great grandchildren; brothers, David Goodyear (Lena) and William Goodyear (Mary Ann) of Brunswick, Ohio, and sister, Mae Pocta (Bud, deceased) of Charlotte.
The family will receive friends from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday, November 29, at Raymer Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will follow at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Raymer Funeral Home with the Rev. Dara Cobb officiating. Graveside services will be conducted noon Monday, November 30, at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, N.C.

TIMOTHY PRICE
Timothy Alan Price, 41, of Hudson, passed away Friday, November 20, 2009, at his residence.
He was born June 17, 1968, in Caldwell County to Earl R. Price Jr. and Glenda Bumgarner Price. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Alan Bumgarner and Orene Bumgarner; and paternal grandparents, Earl Price Sr. and Lois Price.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include a son, Eric Price of Hudson; and a brother, Lee Price of Hudson; two uncles and four aunts.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 27, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Center Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Dale Faulkenbury officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday at Center Grove Baptist Church, Deal Mill Rd., Hudson, from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Bumgarner, Lynn Bumgarner, Lewis Bumgarner, Don Mason, Ned Taylor, and Gary Miller.
Bass-Smith Granite is serving the Timothy Alan Price family.
J.D. HOOD
Mr. J.D. "Bunny" Hood, 54, of Granite Falls, died Monday, November 23, 2009 at his residence.
Born September 14, 1955 in Caldwell County, J.D. was a son of Faye Lingle Hood and the late Gwyn Hood. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Debra Hood Ball; a son, Damon Hood; two brothers, Burl Hood and Charles Hood; three grandchildren, Nicolas, Jenna, and Jada Ball.
"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. And death shall be no more, nor mourning, nor crying, nor sorrow shall be any more, for the former things are passed away." (Revelation 21:4)
The family will hold a memorial service at a later time and will be announced later by Evans Funeral Service and Crematory of Lenoir.

Mr. Eugene Byrd Simes, Jr., 47, of Lenoir, died Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Evans Funeral Service and Crematory of Lenoir.

Ozie Zura Absher Adams, 81, of Hudson, passed away Monday, Nov. 24, 2009, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Pendry's Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service in Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at Pendry's Funeral Home. The family requests that memorials be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
