DAVID MONROE

David Kenneth Monroe, 63, died Nov.21 in Tucson, Ariz.

David was a physicist who earned a bachelor’s degree at North Carolina State University and a PhD at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He was a Vietnam-era veteran who served in the 3rd U.S. Army Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard). He taught physics at Caldwell Community College in Lenoir, N.C., and Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C., before moving to Albuquerque, N.M., in 1984. He lived and worked in Albuquerque until his death. David was a lively, inquisitive and generous father, brother and son, and he will be missed by his family, daughter, Sarah Monroe (Kurt Grever-Hoover) of Tucson; mother, Elsie Monroe of Biscoe, N.C.; brother, Tim Monroe (Helen) of Winston-Salem, N.C.; sister, Carolyn West (John) of Marianna, Fla.; sister, Laura Harris (David) of Candor, N.C.; and an extended family of nieces, nephew, aunts and uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, John David Monroe.

Sarah and Kurt thank David’s good friends and their families for their support during his illness, Albuquerque friends Don Bradley, Bill Filter, Bill Miller, Brad Lyau, Allen Sault, Dave Barr, Amir Shahvar, Andy and Sharon Petney, Richard and Angelica Plass, and Jon Weiss; and Sarah’s mother, Dorothy McDuffie of Chattanooga, Tenn.

The family will conduct a graveside service at Bensalem Presbyterian Church in Eagle Springs, N.C., and a celebration of his life in Albuquerque at a later date. TIMOTHY PRICE

Timothy Alan Price, 41, of Hudson, passed away Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at his residence.

He was born June 17, 1968, in Caldwell County to Earl R. Price Jr. and Glenda Bumgarner Price. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Alan Bumgarner and Orene Bumgarner; and paternal grandparents, Earl Price Sr. and Lois Price.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include a son; Eric Price of Hudson; and a brother, Lee Price of Hudson; two uncles and four aunts.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Center Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Dale Faulkenbury officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday at Center Grove Baptist Church, Deal Mill Road, Hudson, N.C., from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Bumgarner, Lynn Bumgarner, Lewis Bumgarner, Don Mason, Ned Taylor and Gary Miller.

Bass-Smith Granite is serving the Timothy Alan Price family.

MARGARET CHAMBERS

Margaret Gilbert Chambers, 82, of Hickory, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, after three years of declining health.

She was retired from Hickory Springs Metal Plant. She was a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church in Granite Falls.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. John H. Chambers; and by her parents, Martin and Lizzie Gilbert; three brothers, Joe, Ivy and Bill Gilbert; one sister, Minnie Dula; one great-grandson, Casey Drum.

Survivors include two sons, Johnny Chambers and wife Diane of Hickory, Wayne Chambers and wife Donna of Hudson; two daughters, Mary Smith and husband Bobby of Morganton, Becky Kiser and husband Tony of Burlington, N.C.; one brother, Richard Gilbert and wife Sue of Granite Falls; three sisters, Deloris Keller and husband Sanford, Patricia G. Spradling of Granite Falls, Josephine G. Stilwell of Hickory; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Solid Rock Baptist Church with the Rev Jerry Stines officiating. The body will lie in state from 1:30 until 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, N.C.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, at Bass-Smith Granite from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jonathan Holman, Sterling Spencer, Dean Propst, Jimmy Drum, Marty Bumgarner and Bobby Wilson.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690

The family would like to thank the Burke Hospice for three years of loving care and friendship that they have shown to our mother. The family will be at the home of Johnny Chambers, 2060 Dragstrip St., Hickory, NC
