Ronnie Setzer will serve another term as the mayor of Cajah's Mountain.

During Tuesday's meeting of the Cajah's Mountain Town Council, Setzer was selected by fellow board members to be the town's mayor again.

Cajah's Mountain is the lone municipality in Caldwell County that allows its board members to select the mayor.

Setzer and Lois Andes also were sworn in as council members by Mayor Pro Tem Jerry Woods. Setzer will be serving his second term, and Andes remains with the board, a position she has held since the town incorporated 26 years ago.

Woods was chosen as Mayor Pro Tem, with Andes designated as finance director. Jeff Bolick was selected as assistant finance director, and Allen Stewart was chosen as secretary.

"We've got a really good board to work with," Town Manager Connie South said.

Council members received an update on the town's financial statements for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2009, from Ronny Crump of Boggs, Crump and Brown, PA.

The report showed the town to be in excellent financial shape with total assets of more than $5.4 million and an undesignated general fund balance of nearly $1.37 million, well above the state's required 8 percent operational balance.

"We're pretty much in good financial shape," South said.

South indicated that there are some concerns with the added money that Cajah's Mountain will be contributing to Caldwell County's sales tax reinvestment fund. As per a directive from the Board of County Commissioners, the town will have to double its contribution from $160,000 to $320,000 for the next two years.

"We'll just have to buckle down for the next couple of years," South said. "That is a concern for us."

In other business, the council donated $75 to North Catawba Optimist Club to support its upcoming basketball season.

The next meeting of the Cajah's Mountain Town Council will be Jan. 5, 2010, at the town hall located on Connelly Springs Road.
