Despite a pair of season-best scoring games from Mitchell Prestwood and Cameron Kirkman, Heritage Christian School's boys basketball team lost to Shining Light Christian Academy 80-67 on Monday afternoon in Monroe.

Prestwood, a senior, scored a team-high 32 points and Kirkman, a freshman, added 27 for the Eagles (4-3), who trailed by as many as 20 points after three quarters in losing their second consecutive game.

Jared Cruise put in a game-high 38 points for the Knights, who led 17-14 after the first quarter and 37-28 at the halftime break.

Shining Light Christian then outscored Heritage Christian 31-20 in the third quarter to take command

Matthew Page added 18 points and Justin Michaud 12 for the Knights.

MIDDLE SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL Granite Falls Middle 46 Hudson Middle 41

Granite Falls Middle School's boys basketball team used two big scoring quarters to pull away from Hudson Middle for a 46-41 Northwestern Conference victory Monday in Hudson.

Granite Falls (3-4, 2-3) outscored Hudson 18-14 in the second quarter to take a 24-21 halftime lead, then used a 14-12 fourth quarter to keep them at bay.

Ryan Granger scored a game-high 15 points and Paul Neal added 12 to lead Granite Falls.

Dalton Manning and Travis Vance had 13 points each for Hudson (1-6, 0-5).

William Lenoir Middle 48 Gamewell Middle 24

William Lenoir Middle's boys basketball team downed Gamewell Middle 48-24 on Monday afternoon in a Northwestern Conference game at Hibriten High School.

William Lenoir Middle's girls basketball team won its first game of the season Monday, taking control in the second quarter en route to beating Gamewell Middle 27-16 at Hibriten High School.

With the score tied 2-2 after the first quarter, William Lenoir (1-5, 1-4) outscored Gamewell 12-6 to take a 14-8 lead at the halftime break.

Alexis Corpening and Ally Soldati each had eight points to lead William Lenoir.

Brittany Dixon scored a game-high 12 points for Gamewell.
