The Town of Rhodhiss grew a little bit following action taken at its council meeting Tuesday night.

Following a public hearing, the council agreed to add 1.589 acres as part of a voluntary annexation for a parcel that is in the Burke County portion of the town.

Meanwhile, Burke County Register of Deeds Libby Cooper administered the oath of office to returning Rhodhiss Mayor Rick Justice and new council members Dean Isenhour and Mike Phillips. All three men will serve four-year terms.

Incumbent Councilman Allen Spencer was chosen as mayor pro-tem. Justice and Spencer were approved as the board's delegate and alternate, respectively, for the Western Piedmont Council of Governments. Also, Isenhour was selected as the council's safety officer.

During the meeting, Justice presented plaques to outgoing board members Clarence Burns and Wayne Wilson in recognition of their service.

The council also continues to discuss a proposed noise ordinance. The board is reviewing a draft ordinance submitted by Jonathan Jones, the town's attorney, along with an ordinance approved by the Caldwell County Board of Commissioners last Monday evening.

The council is scheduled to meet again on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Ray Childers Elementary School.
