N.C. State wins; North Carolina cruises; Charlotte wins sixth straight

RALEIGH (AP) -- Tracy Smith scored 21 points on 10-of-12 shooting to lead North Carolina State to a 75-57 victory over Georgia Southern on Saturday.

Dennis Horner had 16 points, nine rebounds and six assists for the Wolfpack (7-1), who shot 64.7 percent and had five players in double figures.

N.C. State broke away from the Eagles (3-7) by scoring nine points on its first four possessions of the second half.

The Wolfpack went on to hit their first eight shots of the half, improving to 3-0 all-time against Georgia Southern.

Georgia Southern shot just 32.3 percent in the first half and 40 percent overall, but the Eagles were still in the game in the second half despite N.C. States scoring spree.

Antonio Hanson hit the Eagles first 3-pointer with 11:59 left, and then Johntavious Rucker turned a backcourt steal into a layup, cutting the Wolfpack lead to 52-43 during a 21-10 run.

N.C. State scored on its next three possessions, and the Wolfpack's lead never dropped below 12 points again in their annual return to Reynolds Coliseum the historic on-campus gym.

Western Carolina 91 Louisville 83

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Mike Williams scored a career-high 24 points and Jake Robinson added 23 as Western Carolina stunned reeling Louisville 91-83 on Saturday.

Robinson knocked down three straight 3-pointers during a decisive second-half run to lift the Catamounts (10-1) to their ninth straight victory.

Louisville has dropped three of four since a 4-0 start while Western Carolina hasn't lost since falling to No. 2 Texas on Nov. 18.

Virginia Tech 66 Penn State 64

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- Malcolm Delaney scored 11 of his 27 points during a key second-half stretch and Virginia Tech benefited from Penn State's poor foul shooting in a 66-64 win Saturday night.

Charlotte 95 Gardner-Webb 66

CHARLOTTE (AP) -- Dijuan Harris had 13 points and added six assists, leading six double figure scorers as Charlotte jumped out to a big lead and was never challenged en route to a 95-66 victory against Gardner-Webb on Saturday.

Shamari Spears also scored 13, Chris Braswell and Shamarr Bowden added 11 each and An'Juan Wilderness and K.J. Sherrill had 10 apiece as the 49ers (8-1) claimed their sixth straight victory.

The winning streak is the 49ers' longest since a seven-game run in 2005 and it is the program's best start since going 11-1 in 1991-92.

No. 21 Gonzaga 103 Davidson 91

SEATTLE (AP) -- Freshman Elias Harris scored a season-high 27 points and No. 21 Gonzaga overcame the absence of leading scorer Matt Bouldin to beat Davidson 103-91 on Saturday night.

Robert Sacre dominated the smaller Wildcats inside with a career-best 23 points and the Bulldogs (8-2) won for the first time in four tries in their annual game across the state in Seattle.

Wofford 73, Navy 62

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- Noah Dahlman scored 13 points and Corey Godzinski 12 as Wofford defeated Navy 73-62 on Saturday.

Maryland 83 Eastern Kentucky 72

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) -- Greivis Vasquez scored 20 points in an unwanted reserve role, Landon Milbourne had 19, and Maryland outlasted stubborn Eastern Kentucky 83-72 on Saturday.
