sports@newstopic.net
The winter storm that hit the mountain and Piedmont regions of North Carolina on Friday have forced school officials to postpone and even cancel high school sports events for the weekend.
Basketball games involving three Caldwell County schools were postponed, while a pair of wrestling events scheduled for Saturday in which county teams were participating were postponed or cancelled.
In high school basketball:
* South Caldwell's varsity and junior varsity games against Watauga in Boone have been rescheduled for Dec. 22.
* Hibriten's varsity and junior varsity games against St. Stephens in Hickory have been rescheduled for Jan. 6.
* Heritage Christian School's home varsity and junior varsity games against Christian Family School have been rescheduled for Jan. 8.
In high school wrestling:
* The Tiger Land tournament, scheduled for today at Fred T. Foard High School in Newton, has been cancelled. Both Hibriten and West Caldwell's wrestling teams were scheduled to take part.
* The Ashbrook Duals tournament, scheduled for today at Ashbrook High School in Gastonia, has also been cancelled. South Caldwell's wrestling team was scheduled to take part.
