Man killed by gunshot
Officers and detectives from Lenoir Police Department responded to a 911 call at 1876 Guildwood Place, a dead end road off Fairwood Drive and located behind the Rooster Bush automotive dealership along the boundary between Lenoir and Hudson.
According to Caldwell County property tax records, the 1,050-square-foot house is owned by Judy A. Anderson. The beige brick single-level residence, its yard and roof still coated with snow, was cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape as investigators began to piece together details of the incident.
Investigators have not released the name of the victim, pending notification of family members. Officials also declined to offer additional details of the shooting at this point in the investigation.
Charged with first-degree murder is 50-year-old Edward Carlton Anderson of the same address as the crime scene. He is being held at the Caldwell County Detention Center. Additional information regarding court appearance and bond was not available.
“Our investigation is ongoing,” LPD Investigations Commander Capt. Sid Pope said prior to an evening departmental briefing on the shooting. “It will continue. Right now, I can’t say anything more at this time.”
LPD investigators conducted interviews at the scene, with the department later seeking a search warrant of the premises. LPD Chief Joey Reynolds also was at the scene while the initial investigation was conducted.
“It’s just a tragedy,” Reynolds said without going into additional detail.
The murder is the third this year in Caldwell County and the second in Lenoir.
