PREP ROUNDUP: Warriors guard Jones scores 1,000th career point in win over East Burke

Kendall Jones scored a game-high 28 points, including the 1,000th point of his high school career, as West Caldwell's varsity boys basketball team remained undefeated in the Catawba Valley 2A with a 60-46 victory over East Burke on Friday night in Connelly Springs.
Jones, a junior guard, needed just 12 points to reach the 1,000-point mark entering Friday's game, and reached it with a 3-pointer with about six minutes left in the third quarter. He now has 1,016 career points.
The Warriors (9-2, 4-0) led by just three points after the first quarter, going up 16-13, but slowly built on their lead in winning their third straight game and remain atop the CV2A standings.
Justin Lail scored 20 points and Jesse Huff added 15 for the Cavaliers (5-7, 0-4).
Heritage Christian 85 Millers Creek Christian 22
Heritage Christian School's boys basketball team held Millers Creek Christian to single-digit scoring in each quarter en route to an 85-22 victory on Friday afternoon in North Wilkesboro.
Freshman Cameron Kirkman scored 22 points to lead three other players in double figures for the Eagles (7-3), who led 17-6 after the first quarter and 41-9 at halftime.
Mitchell Prestwood added 17 points, Anthony Hess 14 and Brandon Day 10 for Heritage Christian.
Scott Hutchins led Millers Creek Christian with seven points.
VARSITY GIRLS BASKETBALL East Burke 48, West Caldwell 30
West Caldwell's varsity girls basketball team lost its second straight Catawba Valley 2A game Friday night, as East Burke pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 48-30 victory in Connelly Springs.
Stephanie Honeycutt scored 11 points for the Warriors (5-8, 2-2), who trailed by just three points, 23-20, after three quarters.
However, the Cavaliers (6-7, 2-2) outscored West 25-10 in the final period to pull away and win.
Paige Moore scored a game-high 17 points and Alicia Byrd added 16 for East Burke.
Millers Creek Christian 37 Heritage Christian 15
Heritage Christian School's girls basketball team was shut out in the first quarter, and eventually fell to Millers Creek Christian 37-15 on Friday afternoon in North Wilkesboro.
Makayla Morgan scored just five points to lead the Eagles (8-2), who trailed 9-0 after the first quarter, 17-2 at halftime and 29-8 through three periods in suffering their first conference loss of the season.
Amber Brock led Millers Creek Christian with 14 points.
WRESTLING East Burke 53, West Caldwell 18
West Caldwell's wrestling team dropped its second Catawba Valley 2A match of the season, falling to East Burke 53-18 on Friday night in Gamewell.
The Warriors (3-12, 0-2) won just three of the 14 individual matches, but only one came by pinfall. By comparison, the Cavaliers won 10 matches, four coming by forfeits and three by pinfall.
Winning matches for West were Brandon Spencer at 103 pounds, Matt Wooten at 135 and Nathaniel Blankenship at heavyweight.
JV BOYS BASKETBALL South Caldwell 63, Hibriten 58
South Caldwell enjoyed a come-from-behind win over Hibriten on Friday afternoon, beating the Panthers 63-58 in Sawmills.
The Spartans trailed by as many as 24 points before making its furious fourth-quarter rally, outscoring Hibriten 30-8 in the fourth quarter to erase the deficit.
Josh Evans scored 14 points to lead three other players in double figures for South. Justin Parlier added 12 points, Thomas Redding 11 and Devin Smith 10 for the Spartans.
Jose Muniz led Hibriten with 18 points, with Jordan Rutherford adding 16 points.
West Caldwell 41, East Burke 30
West Caldwell's junior varsity boys basketball team remained undefeated and atop the Catawba Valley 2A standings after taking a 41-30 victory over East Burke on Friday afternoon in Connelly Springs.
Ryan Corpening scored 13 points and Kalice Steptoe added 11 for the Warriors (9-0, 4-0), who led 9-4 after the first quarter and 27-15 at the half.
JV GIRLS BASKETBALL South Caldwell 48, Hibriten 31
South Caldwell's junior varsity girls basketball team remained undefeated after crusing past county rival Hibriten 48-31 in a Northwestern 3A-4A game Friday afternoon in Sawmills.
Amber Gross pumped in a game-high 23 points for the Spartans (9-0, 2-0), who jumped out to a 14-2 lead in the first quarter and never trailed.
Courtney Martin scored 11 points for the Panthers.
East Burke 28, West Caldwell 26
West Caldwell's junior varsity girls basketball team shut out East Burke in the fourth quarter, but saw its rally fall short in a 28-26 Catawba Valley 2A decision Friday afternoon in Connelly Springs.
Down 28-15 after three quarters, the Warriors (4-6, 1-3) outscored the Cavaliers 11-0 in the final period.
However, West missed a pair of free throws with no time remaining that would have sent the game into overtime.
Alexis Denny scored seven points to lead the Warriors.
