South Caldwell's wrestling team won its second Northwestern 3A-4A match of the season Tuesday night, beating Watauga 57-19 in Boone.

The Spartans (15-10, 2-3) won 11 of 14 matches Tuesday, with five of those coming on pins and five by forfeits against the undermanned Pioneers.

South's David Crouch improved to 26-1 at 160 pounds with a forfeit win, Devin Potter improved to 24-2 with a first-period pin of Watauga's Jonah Critcher, and Charlie Volz improved to 26-7 at 189 with a second-period pin oveer Travis Gryder.

Other winners for the Spartans were Alex Cabrera at 112 pounds, Mason Potter at 119, Ty Kistler at 125, Seth Byland at 140, Matt Greene at 145, Austin Winebarger at 152, William Benham at 215 and Austin Sigler at heavyweight.

St. Stephens 45

Hibriten 28

Hibriten's wrestling team fell to Northwestern 3A-4A frontrunner St. Stephens 45-28 in a conference match Tuesday night in Hickory.

The Panthers (19-11, 1-3) won six out of 14 individual matches, including all of the heavier classes, with three of those wins coming by pinfall.

The Indians won the remaining eight matches, with six of those coming on pins.

Hibriten's Zoi Ouellette, the defending state 2A champion at 215 pounds, ran his season record to 38-0 with a first-period pin in the heavyweight match. He pinned Blake Gutberlet at the 1:13 mark.

Also winning matches for the Panthers were Scott Hardiman at 130 pounds, Eain Kirby at 135, Leo Guevara at 171, Tripp Patterson at 189, and Nathan Shultz at 215.

Maiden 53, West Caldwell 22

West Caldwell's wrestling team wrapped up its Catawba Valley 2A schedule Tuesday night by losing to Maiden 53-22 at Maiden.

The undermanned Warriors (3-20, 0-7) had to forfeit eight matches to the Blue Devils, but of the six weight classes they fielded wrestlers in, West went on to win five of those matches.

Winning matches for the Warriors were Brandon Spencer at 103 pounds, Matt Wooten at 135, Colt Kale at 171, Thomas Gunnells at 189 and Cody Pritchard at 215.
