Man kills self on Wilson Creek bridge
A man died Sunday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound while sitting inside his truck at Wilson Creek.
According to Collettsville Fire Capt. Larry Price, the incident happened around 4 p.m. as tourists were in the area. The man, whose identity has not been released, drove a pickup truck on to the old steel bridge about 3 1/2 miles above Brown Mountain Beach Resort, stopped, pulled out a pistol and fired a single gunshot to the head. The man, who was not from the area, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident was witnessed by two to three people, Price said. The bridge was closed for traffic as the incident was investigated.
