SUV strikes church after driver loses control
DEREK LACEY | NEWS-TOPIC A black Ford Explorer crashed into the side of Miller Hill Baptist Church on Virginia Street near Southwest Boulevard in Lenoir, after the driver, whose name and injuries were not released, lost control of the vehicle around 2:40 p.m. Thursday. Lenoir Fire Department Battalion Chief Tyrone Sturgiss said the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle due to a medical emergency, saying the driver, a male, has a history of seizures. Brian Hodge, 45, lives across the street, and "heard a big boom" when the vehicle struck the church and ran to check on the driver, who he said seemed to have been knocked out. He came to and was groggy and not very responsive as Hodge called 911.
